Whisky was admitted in a critical condition earlier this month after eating a significant amount of rat bait.
Upon arrival the 11-month-old ridgeback was lethargic, pale, coughing softly and refusing to eat or drink.
He didn’t improve with initial treatments and urgently needed a lifesaving blood transfusion. Basil, a 7-year-old greyhound came to the rescue donating a unit of his blood and saving Whisky’s life, for which Whisky’s owners will be forever grateful!
We are very pleased to report both dogs are now doing great. Whisky’s appetite returned and his vitals improved as soon as the transfusion was complete. His owners were able to take him home the following day to begin his recovery.
Can your pet donate?
We are always keen to hear from potential donors who can help other dogs in life-threatening conditions. If you have fit & healthy dog, weighing over 25kg aged between 1 and 8 years, they could be a lifesaver like Basil!
