Why it is important to keep your team warm over winter?
In recent years there has been a real push to improve kennel conditions and to provide bedding and jackets for dogs in winter, and for good reasons!
It is harder to maintain a dogs body condition if they are cold. Like us, when a dog is cold they shiver to try and regulate their body temperature and produce heat. Shivering burns the energy gained from their nightime meal which would normally be saved for work the following day.
More shivering = more food intake!
Older dogs and those with arthritis will wake up stiff and sore after a cold nights sleep. They will take longer to warm up, and are susceptible to injury.
Providing your team with winter jackets and bedding will help your dogs keep warm, saving energy and maintaining working condition.
